The gene pool, refers to the genes to choose from in our DNA. Any one, Christian or Athiest, this will effect us, and we should know about it.
It can have to do with evolution as they attempt to find some type of proof of that theory, it can also help with finding medicines to heal degenerative tissues. The gene pool in the beginning was pure because we were all vegetareans. The gene pool is effected now, by us being meat eaters, and other environment factors. The foods we eat, our ways of life, our vices, smoking, sexual orientations etc...
Knowledge of the gene pool is good for all. But like everything good, someone will come up with a way to use it for something bad.

LOL!
What your religion preaches should have no impact on whether you should believe in something you can see with your own eyes! The "gene pool" is simply the available variation in genes within a population that accounts for traits inherited and expressed in the offspring of members of that population. The "gene pool" is a reality whether you choose to consider evolution a viable explanation for biodiversity or not. If you look around you, you will notice the impact genetic influence has; observe people eye color and that of their children, what people look like and what their children look like!
Even as a Christian, you should probably study the Theory of Evolution, and decide for yourself if maybe that was just the way your God choose to make the world work. In spite of what "Creationist" press would have you believe, evolution becomes an ever-more certain fact every time more information is discovered.
Best wishes!

I doubt you'll choose my answer, simply because of the obvious assumptions in this: "I've heard it has to do with evolution so as a Christian should I believe in it?"
The gene pool is complete set of all the alleles of a species. By alleles I mean heritable traits, such as eye color, hair color, height, etc. Take all of the possibilities for all of the traits in the genetic code, and that's the gene pool.
To the poster who claims that "macroevolution" has no evidence/is stupid/isn't science/whatever, where exactly do you draw the line between microevolution and macroevolution? The only difference is time. Small "microevolutionary" changes accumulate and you get macroevolutionary changes. The whole dichotomy is complete BS. Something can't just "microevolve" to a point and then suddenly stop because it's reached the edge of the species. There's no such thing.

Whether you eventually choose to believe in the concept of evolution is beside the point, you should still be aware of opposing views in order to properly formulate your opinion.
Science (evolution, gene pool, ...) and religion are not mutually exclusive in many/most/[all] cases.
To put the concept simply,
All living things have 'genes' which contain a set of instructions that go into making the creature. If we are talking about the human gene pool, these cover just about everything, from the color of the eyes to how many arms you have, all the possible genetic traits someone could have. Since we get these traits from pre-existing people (our parents pass them on to us in the reproductive process)...the collection of all possible genes which could theoretically go into making a new person is the gene pool. If no one has that trait yet, it is not in the gene pool, no one could pass that on to the offspring.
Sometimes you will hear a joke / insult which is something to the effect of, "that persons needs to get out of the gene pool", referring to notion that [for whatever reason] the speaker does not want the person to reproduce and potentially pass on the undesirable trait he apparently has.
The evolution tie in comes when you start thinking how, over long periods of time, the gene pool will change.
Evolution says that those individuals with the most desirable traits will survive and reproduce, passing those traits on to the next generation, and those with less desirable traits will not. Those traits that never get passed on will eventually 'die out' and will no longer be part of the gene pool. The process is known as natural selection.
Of course, now-a-days, evolution and natural selection are in effect, irrelevant for humans with all of our modern technology; almost everyone can theoretically live a full, [re-]productive, life and potentially be part of the gene pool.

Of course you should believe in it! It has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. The gene pool is the collective term for gene producing populations that inhabit the planet. Obviously there are trillions of genes on the planet. The gene pool reflects all those genes. That's why they call it a pool.

Well. I say it like this...
God spoke and nothing exploded into something.
God spoke things into existence.
God created life on earth.
The new way to say differentiation and adaptation within genetic boundaries is "microevolution." It's used in that manner, and hasn't always been, to link observable changes to the idea that a dog and a banana have a common set of ancestors. I think it's dumb but faiths like Hinduism allow for this idea which seems to be no less than a leap of faith to me. I would say that Big Bang Cosmology and Microevolution ties into Christian thinking but that Bilogical Macroevolutionary Hypothesis (notice i didn't say theory) cannot be tested over and over again with positive results and is unobserved.
Genes are the different possible outcomes that parents can give to their offspring. Hair color, etc. A gene pool are the common traits of a specific population of organisms. I said it in shortened layman's terms.

Your cells multiply and divide. Half of your 'genes' came from your mom and the other half came from your dad. The gene pool is the generic word used for the many combinations of chromosomes that make up man as a whole. You are a product of your parents, grand parents, great grand parents, ( begot, begot, begot) Your gene pool is your ancestors. The existence of you and your chromosomes do not require you to believe.

You want a scientific concept explained to you in a non-scientific way so you can prejudge it? You're just begging to be lied to. Why even bother? You obviously don't really want to understand.

if its not in the bible you shouldnt beleive it
the bible talks about everything from the beggining
you have to be careful if you want to find what your lookin for in there
god can call a dinosaur anything in there
you have to be smart to understand stuff
