I have two border collies and they are hard work, they need endless walks. They need plenty of stimulation and plenty of exercise has they are working dogs (but ours are just pets who have endless walks). I also have a Great Dane who is totally opposite, they don't need the excerise like the collies, he just has a 20 minute walk 2 to 3 times a day but has to rest 1 hour before his dinner and 2 hours after to prevent bloat which can kill him.
So each breed of dog is different and it all depends on what character you are looking for.
I am not sure about cats, my sister has Bengals and snowshoes, they are gorgeous looking cats but the Bengals are abit wild. I just stick to my cats which are no specific breed just moggies (mixed bred). I have had no problems with them.

We have a Lhasa Apso who is very loyal and laid back. Only small but also known as the Tibetan Barking dog so let's you know when someone comes to the door. Not at all yappy though. We also have a Maltese Terrier who is a bit more hyper when people visit. Both are fantastic dogs to have if you have children. They are very playful but know when to walk away.Don't lose their fur either so no stray dog hairs lying about and perfect for asthma sufferers.

I think Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a lovely dog to get, as they were bred to be lap dogs, so they will happily sit and have a cuddle with you. They like going for walks but don't need too much exercise, and they are quite small.
But it depends what you are looking for in a pet - you might prefer a big beefy guard dog!

Mixed breeds. Pure breeds are too high maintenance. A lot of bred in health issues.

the best dogs i ever had were of no certain breed. they were child friendly, didn't bark alot unless something were wrong. i have had pomeranians and man, can they yap! i've also been around alaskan huskies and collies, good dogs but i'd still prefer the average mutt.

Sheltland sheepdogs, very inteligent, loyal, fun, can be a bit shy with strangers, small so good in smaller houses on the downside they can bark a bit. They do need grooming espeially when they moult in the spring. nice colours to choose sable, tricolour, and blue merle (which is me on pic) -- i adore shelties in fact get two lol

We had a Lhasa Apso, really friendly, funny scruffy little dog- I would recommend the breed, ours lived till he was 16 years old....we were all heartbroken when he died.

Just your average moggy or mongral. Less likely to be stolen! Plus you can get the best of different breeds all in one.
