GTO actually means 'Gran Turismo Omologato', and was used on the Pontiac and Ferarri.
GTI, as far as I can tell, means nothing, as does GTA, GTB, GTX. Were there any others?

Gran Turismo Omologato, first used by Ferrari to signify the required road car version of the LeMans entry racer. Name was later (stolen) by Pontiac. GTI, some hacked-up advertising moniker that sounds racey.

they just mean they are a better version of a car, like they have a faster motor and better features, like the VW golf GTI and the wrx STI ... i dont no what car has the GTO othere than the old poniac gto

gti was a damn joke ----gto was gran turismo olomogotto --or redneck saying gas tires and oil ---which did come from ferrari-who cares there is more pont gto than fers anyday -as usual gm and the usa won

gto stands for gas ,tires and oil. its what pontiac said you would ever have to replace in the gto in the 60s when it came out.
