I have recently been comparing services of legal online music services. I think yahoo offers over a million songs and has a monthly fee. Napster looks comparable to yahoo. I have also seen some sites that claim they have access to like 12 billion songs and have only a one time lifetime membership for unlimited downloads. I have run the phishing filter to try and determine if they are legitimate. I have also been trying to compare reviews, but I never find anything on these unlimited one time fee places. I am not in a hurry to get ripped off nor do I care to only think I am downloading legally and at the same time I want the best deal for my dollar. Any experts on the topic that can help me out?

The other posters said Limewire? Isn't the question about legal downloads?

Ok, I've tried iTunes, Rhapsody & Napster. My faveorite was iTunes. Those that offer 12 billion are scammers. There are some sites in russia that offer very low prices such as $1 for a full album, this is illegal. The reason they can run such a site is due to the laws in their country. The US is puttin a great deal of pressure on those countries to stop such activity.
iTunes has a larger library, more radio, more video. Rhapsody is good if you just want to play the music on your PC. If however you want to put the music on an MP3 Player, yous songs cost more than the monthly fee.

Perhaps a happy medium would be a combination.

The only site scheduled for debut soon that offers free music from the EMI catalog is: QTRAX http://www.qtrax.com/default.aspx you can't get their software yet.

-Hope this helps.
