Absolutely, in fact, they are now a multi-billion dollar problem for the world's shipping companies.
They no longer wear eye patches and swing on ropes from the top gallants with a sabre between their teeth... instead, they drive very fast boats and fire RPG's and Machine Guns at the ships. They are no longer content to just stop a ship, and rob the crew, the lates thing is to kill the crew, change the name on the ship and take it to a foreign port where questions aren't asked and then sell the cargo.
It's a major problem for shippers off the coast of Indonesia and Africa, but I wouldn't think of taking my sailboat into the Florida keys without being armed because that stupidity of "I'd never own a GUN... I'd call Nine, one, one" doesn't apply when what you have in the weapons locker is the only thing standing between you and someone who wants to kill you and take your boat.

Yes, there are still pirates, in the way you meant, they exchanged their sailing ships for motor boats, I believe they prey on people around the Caribbean most I have heard run drugs, and hijack boats
As to the eye patch a person usually wears those when they have lost and eye, if for some reason a person who makes their living as a pirate lost an eye then most assuredly they would wear a patch.

In the seas off Japan, the Philippines, and several other Pacific nations, there be pirates.. Also, in the Caribbean, there be pirates.. as for eyepatches, only if there's been a problem with their eyes..
and, nope, I'm not joking about the caribbean... do a quick search on pirates and you'll see that it's true..
In the pacific, a ship's captain fired on and tried to ram a pirate vessel, and I think that was last year, but, sure you can get the complete story..

Yes there are still pirates. They no longer wear eye patches and most do not use ships or boats any more either. Piracy has taken on a more technology based form nowadays. i.e. stealing downloads off the internet, and basically any theft that can be used for profit.

Yes, there are still pirates.
They are most active off the coast of Somalia, but there is also activity on Africa's western coast. There was also a pirate attack in Honduras in Central America last year. A yachtsman was killed.
I don't know about the eye patches, but they're often armed with AK47's.

Yes, there are, but their numbers are decreasing. The decrease in the number of pirates has been shown to be the cause of global warming!!
"You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s. For your interest, I have included a graph of the approximate number of pirates versus the average global temperature over the last 200 years. As you can see, there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature."
Go to The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster to see the graph! And other mind-boggling facts!

Oh my God, yes! Try and buy a used car, or shop for a mattress! The new pirates usually wear sports jackets and suits, patches are optional now.
