Yes, it is OK to leave it on. It's no different than leaving on a light. In fact, I recommend that people turn their computer on just ONCE a day, and off just once a day. Off and On and Off and On is bad for the machine in a long run. BUT DO turn it off if you are going to get a thunderstorm. In fact, turn it off, then turn off the power strip.

It takes about as much power as two light bulbs.

Standby mode in many computers does not work very well. If your standby mode works fairly well, then use that. This reduced your power consumption considerable. During standby mode, it takes about as much power as some night lights.

In general, it's good to keep it on if you are going to come back to it in a few hours, because each time you turn it off and on you power down and then up the hard disk. Each time you do this, there is a small but real chance you will crash the disk.

The downside of leaving it on, is that you use energy needlessly. I happen to own a Mac, and my machine has a very convenient and low energy 'sleep' state which automatically and instantly occurs when I close the screen, or if I don't use the machine for about 20 minutes. The energy use in this 'sleep' state is probably about 1% of the normal 'on' state, so I'm content to hardly ever turn it off completely. The machine automatically returns to the fully 'on' state when I reopen the screen or touch the mouse or keyboard, with no noticeable time to reactivate. Very convenient.

Yes, in short it is ok to keep your computer on consistently. However, it is good to restart it on occasion to get rid of extra stuff that tends to build up when a computer's been on too long.

Some would argue that it's actually beneficial to a computer's life-span to keep it on constantly. The only real thing a computer has to worry about is temperature. Turn the computer on, it heats up, everything expands slightly, turn it off, it cools down, etc. Years of this expanding and contracting will eventually break something.

I keep mine on. If I know I'm going to be away awhile, I'll click off the internet, but I leave the computer on.

Leave it on.. continually turning it off and one causes the hard drive to have to spin up and then, when you're done, it goes into standby, or spins down... makes your drive wear out faster..

I really really turn it on 24/7 from 1 month ago and don't have any problems.

Good luck.
