If your apartment allows it, you might get a little dog or a cat to keep you company.
Have music, or the radio on, just to have some human noises round the place. Remember that you are not really alone ... just on your own. The door is shut and nobody can come in who you don't invite and you have a phone, I guess.
Gradually you will get to know others in the block, perhaps, and you will get used to the idea of having your own place. Try not to think of it as 'being afraid'. It's new and new things are a bit scary but we get over them.

If you're in your own apartment, I am assuming that you have a job. Is there anyone at work that you could do things with? The first week, or maybe even two, you will be busy unpacking, washing all of your dishes, deciding where things should go, etc. That should keep you busy, so you don't feel lonely. Does your apartment complex allow pets? If so, a cute little kitty would be a great companion. Good Luck!

The people you've lived with won't stop existing, you'll just live in separate places. Sometimes, the vision/fear of being alone is a lot worse than reality - once you're there, you'll probably handle things a lot better than you think you will right now, and you'll also get used to having a flat of yer own.

Personally, I've lived alone for many years, my experience has been, under STRESS you will find life in general more scary. Develop a support system. Get to know your neighbors. Take a self defense class, you'd be surprised how empowering it can be. YOGA, will strengthen your mind, body and soul, and reduce STRESS.

Keep yourself busy if you get too scared call someone and talk for a while. The scariness of it all will go away once you get use to it. Good luck.

Treasure the experience! I was scared when I moved out on my own. This is more than likely the last time in your life when you will be in charge of you! Take advantage of it, do what makes you happy, learn from your mistakes and above all else treasure this time!.

Get Fish so you can talk to them and not feel like you are talking to yourself. Always have the radio or TV on so you don't notice how quiet the house is. At night use a white noise machine in your room to prevent other noises from scaring you. Nightlight in the bathroom. Good luck.

The ideas above are good, yet don't be afraid to keep the telivision on, or some music. It will help calm you and get you used to the sounds, and maybe less likey to hear and react to other noises in the area.
