I assume you're talking about an old flame. Without knowing your situation, it's hard to say, so I'll give a couple of scenarios:

You're in a relationship, perhaps about to get married, and this person pops into your conscious thoughts. Yes, the breakup was rather unpleasant and you cried about it for weeks, but you thought you'd moved on... but he did have a great laugh, and was a great kisser, and knew just where the kinks between your shoulders were, etc. In this instance, I'd wager you're just nervous about the upcoming nuptials to your current honey, and at least part of you is asking the question, "Am I making the right decision? Is this guy really the one?"

Second scenario: you're already married, have been for some time, when this old flame suddenly comes to mind. Although there had to be good reasons for breaking up way back when, he wasn't all that bad, and you could see how in some of those fights you had, he might actually have had a point. You wonder where he's gone in the intervening years, and what he's been up to. In this scenario, it's either idle curiosity (I've often wondered what old girlfriends have done with their lives, but most of them I'd probably never date again even if I was sigle -- it was a long time ago, they're vastly different people now, and studies show that trying to rekindle things is just a recipe for more heartache) or a part of your subconscious is voicing dissatisfaction with your current relationship. It may be subtle, it may not be serious, but if you value your current marriage, I'd try to focus my attentions on your husband, and work with him to keep the flame alive.

Yes, I believe so. Like Indiana said, they could also be thinking about you and wondering how you are.
