It depends what you plan to use the PDA for. If you just want a basic PDA that allows you to store contact information, calendar events, To-Do list, and take basic notes, than the Palm Z22 is a very good PDA for about $99 at most retail stores.

If you plan to do some Web surfing, getting e-mail, instant messaging, and even watch DVDs, I would recommend either the Palm Tungsten T/X or the Palm Life Drive.

Palm LifeDrive (MSRP $399)

The units are similar in features (though different in look). However, the Palm LifeDrive has a 4 GB hard drive where you can store photos, documents, even DVD movies (with special software). The LifeDrive also has a built-in Bluetooth and built-in WiFi (for Internet connectivity at HotSpots). The Life Drive also has a built-in voice recorder. Both have gorgeous large screens, and are great PDA.
If you plan to use the PDA at school too to take notes, I would highly recommend getting a wireless keyboard.
No matter which Palm PDA you choose, Palm is known for its easy-to-use, powerful handhelds.

Frankie hit the nail on the head. There is plenty of software titles for med students in the Palm platform.
However, PDAs nowadays are geared towards being laptop replacement (at least for small periods of time).
My past two doctors were PDA users. It was easy to graffiti in notes and hotsync it. I carry a complex bank of medical data (first aid, symptoms, emergency response, etc.) on mine as part of my job. It is far more than just a device to schedule stuff or put in addresses.
Best wishes!

It doesn't matter your profession, you need to get the tool that will do the job you want it to. Any handheld is fine, but do you have a specific program you want it to run? Then look at the requirements for that program, and make sure the handheld meets the criteria.
To me, a PDA is a PDA. They take brief notes, hold addresses and such. They all do the same things.
Our pediatrician actually uses a laptop during visits. She must have a program that keeps track of patient information, and be able to input the vitals and everything. I find that pretty neat!

I would go for the Palm Z22 (£70) or upgrade to the TX (£200).
Main reason is that there is tons of medical software available. The TX is probably better as there are some really big medical databases available.
The other advantage is that they are cheap, some are even free.
Ontop of that the Palm inbuilt software is good, solid, reliable, and compatible with PC stuff, but low on memory.

Palm Lifedrive since you can store a lot of info on it. Or get a Palm TX with an upgraded SD card. Then you can install the free palm medical stuff like RX dictionary (i think that's what it's called). There are a lot of med applications for the palm.

Any of the current PalmOS PDAs are a good choice. There are dozens, even hundreds of medical apps and databases in PalmOS format. Check the downloads section of DDH Software, who created HanDBase, a powerful relational database.
