My husband and I have a daughter Colleen Marie, and are expecting twins any day now--and this problem just occured to us. We wanted to name one after my mother, and one after my mother in law, those two names are Annie and Madeline. Colleen (7) just brought to our attention that those are the names of two characters from popular tv shows. Thats when I realized that we were naming our daughters after two orphans (Annie from the movie Annie, and Madeline from the books and tv show) The names we selected were Annie Catherine and Madeline Abigail, would we be better off switching the names to Catherine Annie and Abigail Madeline--or am I crazy and people wont even notice?
Thanks, Camille

I think the names Annie Catherine and Madeline Abigail are beautiful names, especially since they mean something to you and your husband. Most people wont think of the orphans when they hear your girls names, but if they ask just tell them that you named them after relatives who happened to be named Madeline and Annie. Good luck with your twins!

I like both of those names. If you feel that those names are what is in your heart, than name them Annie and Madeline. Everyone will come up with something to call someone to be mean. It just happens, but honestly I didn't even think of the orphan thing until I read further on. Good luck and go with what is in your heart.

I really like these names. My cousins name is Madeline and I have always loved the names Anne and Annie. I would go with these. All children will find something that they do not like about their name, no matter what their name is.

You should name them after your Mother and Mother-in-Law as you originally planned. I believe most people will not know and you can tell them why you named them that if they must know. I would never have guessed. There are always going to be some correlations to someone no matter what names you choose. Congratulations on your upcoming additions to your family.

If you like those names than that is what you should name them, don't worry about it so much no one will even notice.

Nobody on the entire planet will ever notice unless they are some kind of idiot savant or autistic.

Don't try to add connotations to everything. Your original gut feeling is usally right on the money. This is one reason why I value my initial gut feeling on practically everything. It has worked for me. Whether it will work for you , only you can decide that for yourself..
