Why does a cockroach go about in circles before dying?

When sprayed with an insecticide it goes about in circles before dying

You have essentially blocked out all it's senses, it's antennae are the way it navigates it's way around and it also controls much of the visual function. The antennae suffer the most because their are chemicals in insecticides that act as acidic agents to the roaches body. You have also sufficiently suffocated the roach because of the density of the pressurized gas around it once you've sprayed it. So it is confused disoriented unable to properly breathe and inhaling toxins. Not a good combination for any living being, much less a roach...

I think its sense of direction is confused by bug spray. Usually I just stomp on them so they don't go around anywhere. I will bow to the expertise of this asker who has watched them enough to know that circle thing.

Because it is being suffocated. When you use a roach spray of any kind, it suffocates because the it breathes through it abdomen or the surrounding area. The best thing to do, use a roach motel or just smash it....I hate roaches! Thank God I haven't seen any around here!!!!!!!!!

if some giant sprayed you with poison,,, would you be blinded and stunned and upon trying to run away, get confused and go in circles, before death takes you?

i guess its feeling giddy and confused and most probably its trying to escape and and it thinks it can shake of the spray and dry it up, so it might be saved, other than that i have never thought about it before......
