Are Everton a better looking team this year then last year. I think they are. Looking at the quality of play yesterday against Spurs they look like they will be up there come the end of May. Johnson looks a fantastic buy for them and with Cahill and Arteta they look like they might have found that quality that should keep them up in the top ten for a few years to come.
But what do you people think.
Are they up to it.?
Are they up to keeping pace with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.?
And more importantly are they going to beat liverpool in two weeks time..

David Moyes has quietly been strengthening his Everton team. What they lack is a bit of consistency. They can procure a win or two, go to certain away grounds and snatch a win, but they can't seem to do it for weeks on end.
Johnson, Cahill, Neville, Arteta,Yobo and Beattie are all top notch players, capable of doing the business. But when they get injured, that's where the trouble starts. The Everton squad is still thin on adequate cover. Their usual losses in a season have almost always been, because a few players were out injured or suspended.

But I expect them to improve further this season and secure at least a UEFA spot.
As for Liverpool, it is very possible for a Toffees win. Liverpool are a hard team to beat when they are the under-dogs, but when they are the favourites, they very often contrive to fluff their lines.
Moreover, Everton's 'snap at your heels' style, have always proven a handful for the Reds.

They do have a much bigger squad compared to previous seasons, should show an improvement this year.

I will like to see them go behind in matches and try to come back. They are an excellent counter-attacking side and do defend well. That said, I think Johnson, Osman, Arteta, Carsley and Cahill have been excellent so far.

They do need some work to compete with the Big 4 but a top 6 finish this season is a realistic target.

Well, I am not about predict a result for any Merseyside derby, because they can easily go either way. Besides, I am a Liverpool fan =).

johnson was a great buy for u and ive watched cahill for a couple of years now he's electric. I think everton will do ok this season. top 7 at least. After our bad start to the season ARSENAL and after yesterdays crap game. Well i just wish we had brought more players. Got rid of far to many and still may lose 1 or 2 b4 transfer window closes. Bad misake. I would love everton to beat liverpool in 2wks. good luck

Yeah they are a good side but the big test is the depth of their squad. With a few injuries and suspensions Everton could find themselves in a lot of trouble. They are not in the same league as Arsenal,Man Utd,Chelski or Liverpool but that is all down to money. Donkeys years ago Everton were known as the Merseyside Millionaires but nowadays they cannot resist big money offers for players who may come through the ranks e.g. Rooney. Unfortunately as with most Clubs they will be also rans competing at best for 4th spot or one of the Cups.

They aren't that good. I am a Spurs fan and it was a mixture of Everton keeping it tight and scoring with their only chances. And Spurs were the worst I have seen at home for a long time. I give Everton credit. They defended really well, but I don;t think they have enough quality to actually mount a challenge at the top. I think about 7th or 8th maybe.
And a draw against Liverpool next week

Yes Everton definitely looks a more solid team than they were last season.
I say they do well if they can keep this up, but they usually can't. They always tend to falter after the winter break. Unless Moyes can help his team develop a little more consistency, they aren't ready to lock horns with the big boys yet.

The season has only just started so it´s far too early to predict where they will end up but I think one of the first 6 teams.

They will draw against Liverpool in Derby no chance of winning against the Reds!

Their bench is too thin. See how they perform next week when Kilbane is suspended, i'll get back to you. Then again, Moyes and Everton's youth academy always have some surprises.

If they can buy a decent midfielder like Gravesen in the next few days, a UEFA cup place will be the worst place they should be aiming for.

They will get into the champions league and kick out Arsenal and throw them into the UEFA Cup.
