Upstate Ny has tons of options- If you like wine there are winery tours and packages, If it's scenery look in the catskills for a cabin. It would help more if we knew which part of the state you were thinking of or what is closest. East and West sides of the state offer different options. NY has a tourism site online you can check for what interests you. If you want great bargains find out what you want to do and where then search for a local county or town site then call direct to local hotels or even the Town Clerks then can point you in great directions and often for about 40% less then the big online tourism sites can.

Lake Champlain, Lake George, Niagara Falls, and Finger Lakes are common destinations.
NYC is the obvious answer, but I don't consider it a weekend getaway unless you're interested in visiting expensive restaurants, clubs, and bars all night long.

NYC.
"Wake up in a city that never sleeps."
Nightclubs, discos, theatre, museums, restaurants, major league sports and plain old sightseeing. Who could ask for more?
Stay nearby in NJ to keep the hotel cost low.
