my 7 week old has been able to bear his entire body weight on his legs since he was about a month old, even before really.. But I read in 'What to expect the first year' that babies should be able to bear some weight by three months... ?? Is my baby suppose to be that strong or is it kinda odd??

3 months is 13 weeks, give your baby time and don''t rush it, just enjoy him/her at each stage he/she is going through. a lot of baby have that strength early, it is only time to worry when they have not reached the expected stage of development well after the expected time

All babies are able to bear their body weight from the moment they are born. If you child is still standing after 15-20 seconds, then I would say that yes they are advancing fast. My son is 9wks and he can bear his own weight for a good 15-20 secs and has since the day he was born.

They even have a walking reflex in the first month. If you hold them under the arms and place the feet on a solid surface they will mimic walking.

All babies develop differently. My daughter is the same way and I was concerned she was moving too fast but my ped assured me it was ok. If I paid attention to all the books, then my daughter is a baby genius because she has held her head up while on her tummy since the day she was born and has been rolling over since 6 weeks! Dont pay attention to those books. They use average ages for everything! Your baby will progress at his own pace!

i don't think it's odd at all. my baby is 6wks old and she does the same thing. There are alot of things that I have noticed in that book as well since my coworkers son is about 5 months and he seems advanced too. So in all I think it's a good thing for all the babies. Good Luck

My son loved to stand from a few weeks of age (with someone holding him for ballance of course!). He was crusing on the furnature at 7 mo and full on walking by the time he turned 10 mo. He has always been very strong and healthy and there is absolutely nothing wrong with his leg bones. ;-)

That is wonderful as long as it is not pain related. He is a strong , healthy boy. How nice and it is so wonderful to have a healthy baby. He is advanced and will most likely be a gifted child. Special Gift from Heaven.

You have a healthy and strong baby and has advanced development. Don't worry, there's nothing odd about him. Nurture him well, and find joy in raising a lively son at that.

Every baby and child develops differently. Your book is telling you statistics or averages. Your 7 week old sounds to be developing his motor skills well.

Both my babies could bear their entire weight on their legs by that age. *shrug* sounds normal to me.

all 4 of mine could bear there weight that early - one could turn over from the day he was born.

they are all different.

i ended up with an exersaucer type thing cause all of mine constantly wanted to stand up. That was a lifesaver.
