No, not really. I need an escape sometimes and what better way than a good movie. It is the same with Mel Gibson. I will still watch "Braveheart" because it is one of my favorite movies. As for Alec Baldwin, "The Hunt For Red October" is also another one of my favorites. When I watch a movie, I do not think of their political point of view. They are being paid to entertain me and that is what I want.

Nope - their work and their personal views are two different things. If you waste time worrying about an actor's political views, you miss out on a lot of good entertainment! Did people stop liking Brando because of the Oscar thing? It's ridiculous to me that anyone would boycott a movie simply because the actor has a political opinion.

I will not boycott an actor or actress because they happen to speak out in favor of the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, the Libertarian Party... But I wll boycott actors and actress who make racial and ethnic slurs or who promote the Lebanese cause/Anti Israeli sentiements without condemning the terrorists who murder Jews and Non-Jews alike. I will also boycott movies if I feel that an actor or actress has become aggrivating to me for one reason or another.
I will not watch movies with Mel Gibson (as fine an actor as he is) because of his anti semetic slurs when he was arrested fot drunk driving.
I will not watch movies Vanessa Redgrave because of her stand on Israel. I will not participate in putting money in their pockets.
I will not watch movies with Tom Cruise because I find his character repulsive which detracts from any movie he is in.
I will watch George Clooney, Susan Sarandon and Alec Baldwin because they do not bother me in any way.

No way. I watch the movie to watch the movie unless the actor says something against the movie or the role they played I may question it. As for whether I watch it a second time or purchase the film that may be influenced by the actor.

Yes, definitely. I carry it further than movies, however. I don't buy products made by companies who engage in questionable business practices. If I receive poor service from a business, I don't patronize them any longer. Sometimes it requires some effort on my part to find a product or a business to replace the one I am boycotting, but to me, it's worth it. I don't believe in rewarding poor choices just because it's more convenient.
Along the same lines, if I dislike an actor, I don't attend their movies in the theater or watch them as rentals, since a portion of the money eventually winds up in the pocket of the actor.
The power you have as a consumer is deciding to whom you give your money. It impacts a business in the only place most of them truly can be hurt, their profits.
However, I admire the stance Clooney and Baldwin have taken. Cruise, now, he's just nuts.

I find that I don't let me personal differences with actors and actresses influence whether or not I see their movie. But it kinda of depends on what my issue is with them.
Like I don't care that Tom Cruise acted like an imbecile about Katie Holmes - I've seen other middle aged men make smilier fools of themselves. (Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart comes to mind)
I don't even care that he has different religious philosophies than I do. The US is filled with people of differing religious opinions and some of them have a farther reaching platform than others do to get their views out. (Who hasn't heard of Billy Graham?)
But I did take exception to the Dixie Chicks going to England and saying they were ashamed to be from the same state as President Bush when we were on the verge of war. I just thought it was really wrong of them to state their opinion about the US Commander and Chief in a foreign country. So because I feel that way I do not support them in any way.

No, not really. Even if I think a person is an absolute Kook as in the cases of Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise, to name just a few. If the movie looks interesting, I'd probably still see it.
As long as their kookiness doesn't spill over into their acting skills, it wouldn't make much difference to me, although I may not respect them personally.

I don't really care what actor/actresses are like in person. Whatever you see on tv or in interviews is probably a lie anyway, if they look nice or whatever they are probably still acting. For some cases, such as Tom Cruise, I don't think it's really his views that make people dislike him. I think it's the fact that he is influential, and uses this to sort of....push his opinions on people. He's against meds for post partum depression, so he bashes B. Shields and hopes others follow suit. But if he was in a movie I felt like watching, I would go regardless. I care much more about how the people behave onscreen, but if they got bad enough I might boycott their movies to stop them from getting my money. I guess it really depends on how much the person in question offends you.
