I guess you mean BLACK METAL PEOPLE, not metal people... Well, I think it is because of the fact that majority of CoF/DB fans call these bands "black metal" which they are NOT.
Try listening to The Mourning Palace by DB or Nymphetamine By CoF, and then Natassja In Eternal Sleep by Darkthrone, and you'll notice the difference. I won't say what I find better, but if I was a fan of real black metal, I'd be offended by constant adding of some non-black metal bands in my favorite genre...
And one more thing - black metal fans are also known by NOT BEING open minded to other genres of music, so a band must be really "true and grim" to be accepted by them... And, let's just face it - Cof and DB are not "true" enough to be accepted in black metal circles. Their music actually isn't even black, it has more of a gothic metal atmosphere with strong black metal influences.
And if by saying "metal people" you speak about people who listen to Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit - then you're not talking about METAL people!!!

I don't know all of cradle of filth's stuff, but the ones I have heard are pretty good.

i LOVE them!!! and im a metal person!!! Cradle of Filth is my 2nd favorite band!!! (slipknot's my first)

Cradel of Filth just sucks. There is no origial thought, and the instrumentation sucks as well.
