I really hate when people come over unannounced...I guess I am just a private guy, I don't know. Plus, it is usally someone trying to sell you magazines to scam you or some Jehovah's Wittnesses trying to get me to convert.

If it was someone who called first to ask if it was okay to come over (someone I knew of course), I would have no problem answering the door. Or if I was expecting someone like a plumber or a handyman coming over of course.

Just want to know if I am the only one who does this. You know, turn the TV down real low and be real quiet until "they" go away, LOL.

With the possible exception of Witnesses who have only been going door to door for a short time. most Witnesses are completely used to people not answering the door. I can testify to the fact that sometimes they notice people peeking out their windows and are as amused by it as you all are. They do not automatically leave when this happens because they are never realy sure if it is just someone checking on the way to it. Most are pretty thick skinned when it comes to the preaching work and are not really offended by anything they see or hear.

They are looking for people who want to talk to them and they don't know where they are until they find them. They are not looking for people to irritate. Why do they keep coming? See the answer from "achtung heiss". The interesting thing, though is they DO keep finding interested people, and that's what makes it rewarding and helps to keep them in the good moods they are in. In spite of doors not being answered or even slammed in their faces. So do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Don't bother being irritated it's really just a waste of your own emotional energy, and it's not going to stop them. The Nazis and the Russians tried to stop them with laws and prisons. Their numbers grew anyway even during the repressions.

A few times i've done that. It's because l was putting the baby to sleep and might wake up when l answer the door and also when l was taking a shower. Who wants to get out when taking a shower?!And also when there are carolers during X-mas. The same set of kids would come back to sing everynight starting on the 1st day of December till X-mas day comes. Who would love that.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and simply move on to the next householder when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

YES! When I was little my mom used to visit friends with me and it was so embarrassing because you never know if they were suppose to be leaving to the store or about to eat or even doing up. I have a friend though that doesn't have a phone because she can't afford it and I have no choice but to show up unanounced, but I always make sure it's not too early or late at night. Yes and I do not answer my door all the time mostly because I like to walk around my house naked.

It's your home and you have the right to decide who is welcome and when. You don't have to open the door to anyone if you don't want to. You don't need to turn down the TV and hide. It's your home and you should feel safe in it. My only caution is to be careful that you aren't ignoring a cry for help or a cry of warning. How would you feel if someone died on your doorstep while trying to ask for your help or what if one on those people knocking is trying to warn you that you are in danger?

I live in a large apartment complex and if I have gone to bed for the night I do not answer the door. At other times, I check to see who is at my door and then I make the choice to invite them in or ignore them. I do not allow salesmen or Jehovah's Witnesses in. It's my home; I have the right to my privacy; I have the choice of when and to whom to open my door.

I do. It is usually the kids next door wanting the boys to play. The boys go to the teen center on the weekends for a couple of hours and it never fails that the neighbor children want to play with them while they are gone.

Actually I either peek out a window or tiptoe up to the door and check out the peephole. If it's someone I don't know, I just let it go and get back to whatever I was doing.

yep gonna have to agree with u on this one. its really annoying - if i knew someone was coming over i would spruce up a bit cos someitmes we all like to slob around. its only curteous to call.

me and my mum used to do it years ago - there was an uncle and his wife who used to come to the dooor and we always seem to see them walking up our street so we would turn the tv off and hide in the other room. i dont do that now though i just answer the door.
