I have a couple of friends from 'over the pond' and their opinions differ. Some actually still think we're 'backward' or have the 'stiff upper lip thing?'

Though I have not had the opportunity to go to Great Britain I have friends who have. All have said it was the best place in Europe to visit. They said the People were great, everyone was warm and friendly. In fact many have said they would return just because the people were so great. Oh yes the pubs, loved the pubs. Some were amazed and how quickly peoples accents changed from traveling a short distance (short in terms of US distances).
For tourism only it would be my first choice followed by Ireland.
For cycling, sorry I'd have to go to France or Italy.

I love everything about Britain and British folks. I have studied British history for a long time and have decided to major in British history. Everything about Britain and British people fascinates me. So I don't know how others feel, but I don't think you are backward or have a stiff upper lip thing, or anything like that at all. You're OK in my book.

Oh come on, open this up a bit and ask what Australians think of the British....
Goody!
These aren't my personal views, but we tend to think of the Brits as being whingers, bad at cricket, a bit girlie and pale!!
(I think Brits see us as being nothing more than convicts - a bit rough around the edges)
Saw a bunch of English people a few weeks ago - knew they were British cos they were very pale, they were on the beach, and it was the middle of winter. Gotta love 'em!!!!!

They think you stand up perfectly straight and have your nose in the air. They think your accent is too fancy. All of which I strongly disagree. Standing up straight (which I do myself) does not mean you are arrogant or uppity. And just because you have a more structured way of speaking, rather than, "like" and "yeah" and "umm" doesn't mean you're better or you think you are. The uptight British folk are only in the movies, and they should come to understand that their stupid stereotype is false.

I am an American, and I love the British cultures and ways. I wish I was British. I don't think that the British are "snobby" and "stuck up", I don't know if some Americans do or not, but I don't.

I'm British in UK. i think the Americans are too full of themselves and too pushy. they think they rule the world and they read too much about god and Jesus. they are bible bashes. and their discipline is wrong. the kids have real guns and that wrong. i lived in USA for a while and although it was not that bad, the people seemed too nasty about us Brits. too many fast food restaurants there. not much healthy food there.
