War is terrible for the american economy. That is way the US economy is doing poorly while Bush and Cheney are making god knows how much from oil profits.

Hell, yeah. Look at Haliburton. But in this case, only a few corporations and the fat guys at the top are benefiting.

It used to be that war boosted the economy for the working man or woman, like during WWII. Back then, the US used automobile factories to build tanks, jeeps--and shipyards, armories and aircraft factories were in full production. Jobs were plentiful, not only because of men leaving to go to war, but the government work orders.

But as waging war became more sophisticated, and the equipment and technology more expensive, the number of new items being built dropped off. War is no longer a numbers game. It's more strategic.

And the current war in Iraq is underfunded, anyway, in terms of basic equipment for our men and woman in battle--whether you're talking about Kevlar body armor or properly reinforced Humvees. But that's a whole other issue--mobilizing an unprecedented number of National Guard troops from states with outdated equipment and NO plan to crank up production of necessary battle gear is a dramatic shift from how it all played out during WWII.

So yes--there's money being made. But the right people are not benefiting--neither working folks at home, nor the men and women sent to Iraq with less than what they need to do the job.

Military Industrial Complex

Eisenhower warned against it. Rumors say that JFK got killed by them for attempting to pull out off Vietnam. Iran Contra. George Bush Sr. was CIA director and was said to have supplied weapons to foreign armies.

Considering how much it cost to feed, train and equip a soldier, the manufacturers and suppliers of the food, clothing, weapons, equipment and vehicles are making a killing.

Many very powerful people make lots of money from war. They have quite a lot of influence over the mere peons we elect. Elections make us feel good though.

Yes and no. Mostly that is communist disinformation. However, it all boils down to economic factors. Like protecting shipping and trade around the world, which without, would destroy the World
economy.
