Based on your follow up, it sounds like the cable inside the machine might be loose. The case needs to be opened and the cables that go to the motherboard and to the CD/DVD player need to be checked to be sure they are inserted correctly and all the way in.

A new machine shouldn't have a lot of dust in there but sometimes cases are opened up and cockroaches or a dead mouse (the hairy kind) is found, and that is what is causing the problem.

The other possible problem is that your machine has cheap hardware and that the CD player in the machine has already met the Grim Reaper of computer parts. If it is a brand new machine, it may still be underwarranty and they can swap out the old CD drive and give you a new one.

If you CD Rom Drive does not read any CD at all then probably it is shot. But it would be better if you make sure that it can read CDs other than SIM2. At the same time, if you put in a CD in to the drive and then if you go into ' My Computer ' and in the D: drive ( normally this is the designation for the CD Rom Drive ) if you see some detail about the CD that you put into the drive, Then it is possible that something else is wrong. Maybe SIM2 is not compatible with your Operating System.
