A little less than 200 years ago (1819) Stephenson demonstrated his steam locomotive in England. After this development was rapid and today we have high speed trains, we have incredibly long trains. All of these built on the original ideas and technology developed by men like Stephenson.

Do you laugh at Stephenson because you can do better in your backyard? Do you really know how the steam engine works, how to improve it's efficiency, how to manufacture it better and so on?
Do you laugh at the engineers who constructed the great American railroads that are still essential today? I hope not.
Could you build a water wheel or a windmill to grind corn with only hand tools in your back yard? Try to do any of these things and then see if you think the technology is puny.

Stephenson's technology was not puny and ours is not today. Only a fool who could not even start to understand what is involved would laugh at old technology.

pardon, billy-boy, I'm assuming that you roll on the floor howling at those puny Egyptians with those ridiculously simple to build pyramids. Well Einstein, most intelligent people, like today will be astonished by the awesome progress mankind has made in tech. in only say,50 years. You think you're smart? This was a stupid question.

I don't think so. I don't laugh at steam trains or sailing boats or even computers made from relays ( a bit of a chuckle there).
