I've heard Paul Young sing the above song, but I can't seem to find a version of the above song that Marvin Gaye actually sang. Has anyone heard this version and where could I find it (album, etc). I've tried Limewire and didn't see it.

That's the title of the song. And no, it isn't Papa was a rolling stone. The name of the song is "Wherever I Lay My Hat - That's My Home" and was recorded by Paul Young. But the writer is listed as Marvin Gaye

This song, "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," was written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. The line is "Papa was a rollin' stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home". Released originally in 1971 by "The Undisputed Truth", it was then re-released in 1972 by The Temptations, which is the version that became famous. It was never sung by Marvin Gaye.

The name of the song is "Papa was a rolling stone". The lyrics are "Wherever he laid his hat, was his home. And when he died, all he left us was ALONE".

Marvin Gaye did not sing this song, the Temptations did.

i think the lyrics are
papa was a rolling stone,
wherever he laid his hat was his home,
and when he died
all he left us was alone...

there are 2 diff versions of Papa Was a Rolling Stone, but Marvin Gaye did not write it...the Temptations recorded the most popular version
