You got it so right!! That's just a good place for odors to gather, i guess!! Usually, it's not a place we reeeaally lather up good while bathing, cuz it's just so hard to get to!! Noticed this too..Am very careful, tho' when expecting a rowdy time with b/f!!! He loves to tickle me there!! LOL

okay, you have to clean your belly button.
take a Q-tip put some soap on it and rub it in your belly button.

cause it is dirty in there if you do not clean it often.. bacteria loves areas where there is lack of oxygen - so get in there with a Qtip and clean it out when you shower...
