After reading some of the political questions on here i thought i'de ask this question.
With questions and answers relating to current matters in the middle east, terrorism, iran and iraq i would like to know how people are coming to there conclusions and why are they asking the questions.
Are people questioning what they here in the news and from politicians? Are the answers coming from imformative conclusions? are people posting questions keeping an open mind and willing to learn from any answers that may come along?

I use several sources to form my opinion. I did this before I ever used Yahoo answers. I do read and rate answers of others.

Other people ask and respond according to their own beliefs and interests using whatever resources are availble to them. Some people are more capable of researching their ideas than others. Everyone, including me, has a bias.

I doubt whether anyone really has an "open mind". Most people are willing to listen to conflicting opinions, but usually keep their own point of view.

It would be great if critical thinking and logic were taught in elementary school. Here are some links for logic fallacies:

I think that people in today's society are heavily influenced from what they see on tv. The television has become our second family, teacher, babysitter, and source of "factual" information. News reports and discovery channel paint an image in our minds on how the world is according to tv. They basically tell us who the good and the bad people are. Now a days what we see on tv or on docuentary movies are percieved as "real". People are not close minded on purpose, they have just been molded to think a certain way with the influence of tv has shown them.

People get their information from various sources (internet, news media, opinions from friends, etc.), and some sources might be biased. It all depends on what they believe.
Some people are going to believe what they want, no matter what anyone does to change their minds. Some will listen and form their own opinions. Some don't care either way. That's human nature.

ever since Bush became president I've become a Liberal Democrat after being a Conservative Republican my whole life. I voted for Bush in 2000 and fell for his uniter, not divider bullcrp. His Radical Right Wing base is so radical and will never be close to middle again. I'm not a Bible thumping moral ruler like they want to be. I am more accepting of others and their beliefs. So I'll NEVER be Republican again, no matter how bad a economy is, it's not worth giving up civil rights and freedoms. DEMOCRAT/Social Liberal, closed case!!!

I try to be open minded in the sense that I attempt to understand where others are coming from. However, I do have certain moral principles that are basic - ie not tolerating racism from any source. Otherwise I'm always willing to learn - even from those q&a that appear "dumb".

I try to be open minded, and have answered a fair few questions. It depends upon the context of the question. We all have an axe to grind. It's called having an opinion.

Many of us are open minded to some things and closed minded to others. I include myself in that statement.

No, everyone seems to have an axe to grind. Plenty are on Answers just to irritate other people.
