They can live up to a couple weeks without food. However, they still need water; without water you die in only about three or four days (and you spend the last day or two lying on the ground moaning).

Oh, and as for all this nonsense about buddhist mystics living for years on only water, that's just what it is: Nonsense.

A long time if they keep themselves hydrated. Now without water,
you might only last 4-5 days, depending on your physical condition and age.

Food by contemporary modern science is defined as the calorie containing organic molecules "protein, fat &-or carb" containing sources that can eventually get into cell respiration or the Krebs Cycle (Food can be either liquid or solid, but most folks consider food to be "solid.") So if a person is able to get some small quantities of PFC in very dilute liquid form, even in an IV (even without them eating by way of ingestion into the mouth) say, if they were in a coma, they could live for quite a long time, even years, depending on the state of the body cells' ability to absorb and assimilate digested PFC micro nutrient molecules, the amount of fat on their body, the time they are MEANT to die, etc. It is an often amazingly LONG torturous time for loved ones to watch a terminally ill hospice person die VERY slowly even after nutirents and water are cut off in the IV. There are average times stated in hospice textbooks, but as the world watched Terry Shiavo's story in 2004, we all know that there is huge variation in individual humans who are able to defy the textbook figures.

In prior eras when humans lived for thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years (i.e. satya yuga longevity was 100K years) if they were very advanced astanga yogis, they spent most of their time doing yoga as a form of austerity to become purified and then they were able to actually reach the eternal heavenly planet of Krsnaloka! They could be without food and water for years, decades, centuries! (Spirit enlivens cells very easily in those eras; spirit enlivens cells now too, but it is much harder to do with this darkness that surrounds us now.) In this very fallen era, called Kali Yuga, we are unable to do these sorts of seemingly miraculous feats, including incredible longevity! Basically, the eight forms of yoga (astanga) do not work in this era! However, bhakti yoga (devotional service), the Maha Mantra and taking prasad (blessed food offered to the Lord first) are the ways to purify oneself and to nourish oneself spiritually these days. Food that is offerable to the Lord includes uncontaminated grains, dairy, fruits and veggies ONLY! So, in this era, fasting for austerity's sake is not recommended. This info is found in the Vedic shastras where cosmology and the science of body, mind, spirit, spirituality and God are explained very deeply. Awesome reading!

i believe its 3 weeks without food...and about 3 days without water

but those are only averages...you have to take into account your physical condition, body type, age, weather, etc.
