The fix can be of a few options, from the Whole house filter available at The Home centers for under 50$ installed by yourself, these will require Filter changes, depending on your rust and sediment content in the water
You can also add, the OXY cleaners to your wash , to stop the yellowing,
the most expensive is the Softener, i would still suggest a whole house filter with this method, to protect the softener itself, this can be done with plumbing knowledge and depending on your iron content cost fro 250.00 to 1000.00 as a do it yourself,
another option would be to call a well person who may flush your pump ,well and water system, there is also a home user flush kit available at you local home center- this will require at least 2 days, and knowledge of your water system

You need to invest in a water-filtration system to remove the impurities from the water. Will cost you between $500-4000, but will pay for itself in cleaner water and white clothes. Can get from Home Depot, Lowes or Sears.

Just get a better water filter that handles iron in water. Also, I put another water filter just before my hot water tank and they seem to solve the problem, so far.

You can buy a whole house water filter at Home Depot for a pretty reasonable amount of money. If you're handy, you can even install it yourself.

try some washing soda. It will help keep them whiter, but over time they will still turn yellow.
