Oh, thank you, Lord. I love music of all sorts, but have always LOATHED this bunch of tuneless, hugely untalented drunks and charmless, ugly louts.
Bless you for the question.
By the way, my real name is Keith Richards and I look like Death on a bad night, but I forgive you LOL

I'm not over 40 (sorry) but if nothing else I can compare the Rolling Stones right now to Paul McCartney right now. On last year's Super Bowl Mick Jagger could not sing. He doesn't have a voice anymore. I think he just yelled and made grovelly sounds.
The year before Paul had a great voice left. He can't really hit the high notes too well but he is actually singing.
Just a comparison there.

I'm 57, and I never liked the Rolling Stones [or the Beatles for that matter] Occasionally I hear some oldie from the Stones, and it still just sounds like a noisy metal-working factory with some injured people yelling in the background.
But then I also wonder if Jagger's looks, or lack of, automatically turned me off their music.
Now, having said all that derogatory stuff, their "Satisfaction" is probably my first or second all-time favorite song from that era. Probably because I was a college freshman, just starting to date my future husband, and we were usually stoned at some club when we heard it.
Just kidding!

Back in 1973 I had a girlfriend who claimed to have jumped on Mick Jagger's back at a concert - she never did say why, perhaps she was trying to stop the singing.
I have never understood the popularity of the Rolling Stones. They are not the best of musicians and Mick Jagger has always been a lousy singer. It must be down to good marketing.

I'm not quite in the age group you're looking for, but I'm pretty close, so I'm answering anyway.
The place of the Rolling Stones in rock and roll history can't be denied, but I only really like one of their songs. (That would be Beast of Burden.) I don't get why so many women find Mick Jagger sexy, that's for sure. Ewwww...nasty thought! Anyway, the point is, their place in music history is solid, but I could live without them, that's for sure.

The Stones rock ! Mick and Keith are great. When they first appeared in the US, parents thought that they would destroy the minds of there young son's and daughters. They shocked society. The are great musicians and they just keep on rocking. What are you thinking? They kicked off a whole new era of rock & roll as we know it.

They've done a few classics in their time.
Mick's voice is unique - love it or hate it, it's part of what makes the Stones who they are.
Have a listen to the lyrics of "Paint it Black" sometime, it is outstanding.

Goat's Head Soup was the beginning of the end, and I think that was around 1974. That album wasn't that good, and everything since has been worse. A lot before that was really amazing.

The Rolling Stones haven't put out a good song since Brian Jones died back in 1969.

WOW!! I thought I was the only one who thought the Stones were overrated.
They were manufactured as a contrast to the squeeky-clean Beatles, even though bands like the Kinks and the Who made the Stones look like choir boys. Now, they're just living off their name. Goes to show the power of marketing.

ok not really...granted i am only 20 so i'm still into that kinda music...rock n roll and all. but to be honest i always preferred the beatles over the stones. i mean, i like SOME of the stones' songs, but i LOVE all of the beatles music y'know. And seriously, the stones sorta adapted to music as time went on and it was just crap. i mean, what was up with that whole 80s crap!? Start me up!? Worst song ever...next to the macarena. Like I said, like some of their songs...but doesn't mean i like them as people...they seem way too cocky for their age...like they're never going to die or something.
