If I were you, I will not do it.

Why ? ...because to bring back the silverish shine, you probably need to polish it with chemical.
Though the platter will be washed, do you feel comfortable to put food on it ?

why not use tin foil to cover it, that way it is a silver platter, just covered in aluminum
