People forget Lemieux fought of cancer, missed 30 games and still won the scoring title! Pretty Impressive.

And Lance is... well HE'S Lance Armstrong!

First of all biking is not a sport, it's a recreation. And that punk a** Lance Armstrong left his "normal" wife that went through all that with him for Cheryl Crow after he became famous, I have no respect for this uni baller. Lemieux is the greatest hockey player of all time.

Mario Lemieux is by far a better story. The sport itself is much more demanding than riding. The sports are not anywhere in the same category. I'm pretty sure that Lance Armstrong would probably not be able to play 82 games in a season plus playoffs. If Mario trained for most of the year and rode in a 2 week race, he would probably be able to finish the race and maybe beat someone.

And of course, props to Saku Koivu.

Lemieux, don't forget what he did all the years after that first one. If you say about Armstrong, all we know him for is winning the Tour de France 7 times and that is an accomplishment BUT it is one race over 2 weeks on a bike. Mario on the other hand had to play 82 games over a season for multiple years. I'm sure that Lance competed in other races, but what ones do you hear of. I just think that Mario was better.

I agree with the first person, Armstrong is a complete scumbag and is only fame orientated, and he is speculated to have taken drugs! So I think Lemieux is waaaay better, but you should have put down Saku Koivu as one of the options as well, he fought cancer too.

This is a tough one! They are both incredible athletes, but I would have to give my vote to Lemieux! Although Mr.Livestrong comes in a close second!

Did you forget about Saku Koivu? He had a really agressive kind of cancer and came back 8 weeks later. Sisu is a Finnish word that means guts, stamina, will to survive, stubborness, etc. Koivu is the epitomy of sisu!!!

Good question. I would have to say Lemieux. I just think of Hockey as more of a sport.

Mario--he did it just with the chemo not the juice. Lance was on drugs...denial is not just a river in Egypt, as they say.

Anyway, cycling is not a sport. it's a freakin' activity. Physiclaly demanding but who wants to watch that? If he wasn't American, nobody would care in the US of Eh. Seriously, it's the ultimate Euroweenie sport--paint drying is more interesting.
