Agriculture hands down. The ability to create and rely on a dependable source of food without continually having to be on the move to hunt it is what both led to the formation of civilization/society as we know it (versus just being tribes of hunters) and also allowed us then the time and ability (and the need for) to create further technological innovation; if you spend all your time chasing after your food source, you don't have the time to pursue further technical advancememnts. Hunter/gatherers also lived generally in smaller, more isolated communities whereas agricultural civilizations were more centralized allowing ideas and technology to spread easier; large-scale civilization also created the need for further technolgy and ideas too. If you look at the rise of great civilizations from Egypt, the Middle East, China, the New World, etc., they all flourished because they developed agricultural societies; even today, the strength, stability, technological advancement, etc. of a country is largely based on their agricultural ability if you think about it. Third World countries are those that have difficulty feeding their people while First World nations have the ability to export food.
