I like Robert Ludlum more, Clancy is good, but just too technical for me. My favorite Ludlum novel(s) would have to be the Bourne series. The Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum. My favorite Clancy novel was Patriot Games.
Ken Follett, Daniel Silva and John Le Carre have also written lots of great spy and espionage type novels.

They are both good writers but Tom Clancy is the better of the two. My favorite Clancy is Red Storm Rising and my favorite Ludlum is The Aquataine Progression. If you like these two guys you might check out Trevanian's books (Shibumi, Eiger Sanction, Incident at Twenty-Mile, et.al.)

i dont know about tom clancy but ludlum's jason bourne series is awesome
