Do you bring home "junk" stuff that might be useful someday, keep things that are broke, save everything old magazines and stuff. Can't resist a garage sale or a auction,or Ebay, looks in dumpsters and does alley searching.
Is this a mental condition?

Yep, I'm a pack rat (don't open my closets) I don't keep broken things but I do save stuff for sentimental reasons or for the reason I'm going to use it someday. I'm getting better though and the stuff is more organized now instead of just hanging out in my livingroom. Most of my stuff is for my art..and depending on my mood my art could be scrapbooking, pottery, stained glass, whatever I feel like. I brake for garage sales, and dumpster diving can save tons of money!!

I am a bit of a pack rat, because I like to recycle things and then I never get around to it. I also have a tendency to let stuff pile up and then I have a hard time going thru it (like Mail). I have noticed lately that I tend to shop for and collect things that I already have plenty of. Yes, I do think there may be an emotional/mental reason behind it, especially in extreme conditions.

Hording is not a form of ADD, it is a form of OCD.

In Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the obsession represents and anxiety, in this case that they might need that object and not have it. Most folks who suffer from OCD are aware of the outlandish nature of their obsessions, but still feel powerless.

The compulsion is the behavior aimed at reducing the anxiety created by the compulsion.

I have included a link below to the diagnostic criteria for OCD.

Yes, it is. Hoarding is a form of ADD.... I have it too. Have so much stuff I can't find whatever it is I am looking for. I know it is here somewhere, but so what? Crippling disability if it goes too far.
Get in contact with your local mental health folks, or start with your family doctor. Meds help some folks, counselling helps others.
Good luck honey! I sure feel for you

I wonder if this is hereditary...I am a terrible "pack rat" as was my father....I love to collect things from my child hood...I am now trying to weed things out that I don't really need anymore...I keep telling myself "that I can't take it with me"!
I have heard that this IS a mental condition....I have run out of room :-)
