witchhazel has alcohol in it, so yes it is just as harsh. peroxide can be used but it is extremely damaging and will only kill surface bacteria/germs. also creams and ointments are never acceptable (i personally have used it-to moisturize a angry/cracked, only on the edges- but as a general rule I will not recommend this because people tend to apply WAY to much) as they can trap more bacteria and even suffocate the area. (read the box-not for puncture wounds, piercings are puncture wounds)
a much better antiseptic is called tea tree oil, it can be bought at a pharmacy in the first aid aisle. Its a stronge smell and will tingle a bit, not a bad tingly, but this can soak deep into the tissues and attack the pus/infections much better than alcohol/peroxide. You may find it a bit harsh so dilute it with a bit of water

Use peroxide, 2-3 times daily. You may end up having to remove it, if the infection is inside any part of the piercing. It may be what the piercing is made of. Try replacing it while using peroxide.

Use Neosporin/Triple Antibiotic; this works fast to heal; makes it easy to turn the piercing; and doesn't get all crusty, dried out from alcohol/peroxide!

You can try putting some witchhazel on it. When I got my piercing years ago, they told me to put witchhazel on it so it would not get infected. It works. It is less harsh than alcohol. Ask your pharmacist about it and you do not need a prescription.. You need to put it all over the ring (or whatever you have). Keep it clean and move it so it doesn't dry in one spot.. LET ME KNOW....

of course you should treat an infected peircing. put on some antibiotic solution such as alcohol, peroxide, even creams such as hydrocortisone (2%). or you could buy an antibiotic solution from claire's for piercing because thats what i used when i got mine pierced.

You might have to take it out for a for a day or so , just to heal , and use peroxide or if you can stand it use alcohol ... and only wear REAL gold of silver jewlery ... and if you have sensitive ears you should use the earring's made especially for sensitive ears.

You can get special ear care liquid, usually at the place you got the piercing or a place that gives piercings.
