They're not a Christian band, but Halford has eluded that he is a practicing Christian - the name of the band is not supposed to be anti-Christian, but a lot of people take it that way. According to Halford, the name is supposed to represent a balance of dark and light in humanity - Judas representing our dark-side, and Priest eluding to our light-side - Christian symbolism, as Rob was raised in a Christian household. In the 80's a lot of Christians thought they were evil - but there is no anti-Christian sentiment in any of their music, and songs like Painkiller (read the lyrics - it's about the second coming) are quite obviously based on religious prophecies and stories.

Read the lyrics to "beginning of the end" song it is very Christian in meaning. There are many metal musicians and fans that are Christian

Hell no they are heavy metal from the 80's but the lead singer came out of the closet a few yeard back. I myself always wondered he looked like a gay biker all the time reminded me of Freddy Mercury
