Spend some time in Michaels or Hobby Lobby on their jewelry making aisle. Finally, after years and years, jewelry making is back in vogue and we have quality products to choose from.

Definitely get something sturdy as ponybeads are heavier than most and will pull down...

Pony beads are pretty big. I would try leather string or hemp. I've seen keychains made with pony beads on thin chain that looked cool too.

Go with some sort of cord. I'd recommend leather, silk, nylon, or that plastic lanyard stuff. Make sure it's fairly large in diameter so your beads don't slide over your knots.
