Burning a flag is a protected right. It has come to symbolize much much more than a disdain for America or the American government. The current administration has trampled all over the First Amendment and currently has more journalists imprisoned for leaking state secrets than China does. Burning the flag in protest is a fairly common way to elicit a reaction and make people ask "why would they do that."
It seems you have neglected to ask that question, preferring simply to apply your own ideals to someone else's life and experience and totally forgetting that every action and every decision a person makes has a genesis somewhere in their life. An inspiration if you will. I do not know what this person was thinking when they lit a flag on fire, but to generalize "black people hate america" is asinine. Ridiculous to the point of being laughable. Look at who the soldiers that are serving in Iraq are. Look at the faces that are fighting and dieing overseas. About 70% of them are minorities. The war itself has been the topic of a lot of discussion, but theres no question that the soldiers in it are serving bravely and with distinction. And many of them are black.

I think it is not just black people who hate - and I do not beleive they hate the country itself but rather the politicians who control the people. There is a cancer growing on the Presidency of the United States of America. Never in US history has there been a politician who has so completely, devastated the economy of the United States and imperiled so many future generations of American citizens. Don't blame this on black people, the anger runs very deep in many cultures.

andy_m: one thing that you need to understand is that black people----or any other people for that matter are not monolithic, and that is one of the major misconceptions in our society today, that a group of people all think alike and act alike.
We take an article of one magazine written by one person without checking other sources, or taking into account that person's own biases when writing that story. No, we swallow it up (because we see it in print), and proclaim it as gospel.
