It's true, that Tesco are taking over, but on some important days of the year, there are restrictions on when Tesco can open. I seem to remember on New Years day the Tesco in our area was closed, and we had loads of customers, (I work in another shop), and those were the days that allowed us to stay in copmpetition with the big stores, because we could offer services when Tesco couldn't. It happened on Boxing day too.
I think it's a way of reminding some people that although Tesco has lots of things under one roof, it is possible to go somewhere else for food, petrol, milk, meat and money, and they might be closer than Tesco. It reminds people of the competition.
And I heard that Tesco doesn't make that much of a profit in the UK. Apparently it's usually in the Indonesia area that they make the most money, which shows that the competition is fighting back here in the UK.

The country? I think they are trying to take over the world. However, as a regular Tesco customer I'm not complaing really. My only gripe is that I wasn't allowed to use my clubcard in the Tesco Lotus stores in Thailand.

I was in Poland recently and it's taking over there too. Where I live in London the choice is: a huge Tesco and a less huge Tesco. Some competiton would be nice.

There is something sad in that. If it's any consolation, here in the U.S., outside of very few posh areas, you're never going to find any market of Tesco quality at all.
My friends here (in New York!!) think I'm a bit weird when I tell them there are excellent wines, cheeses, breads and meats in the supermarkets in England.

It is Britains leading supermarket, and by opening all these little Tesco Express shops they are cornering the corner shop market as well.

It's awful isn't it! You can even buy your WEDDING DRESS from a supermarket nowadays. A local little town is being virtually demolished for a new Tesco and "swish" new bypass. It's insane
