My wife says Dr. Seuss was a lyrical gangster, but I think he was an overrated madman with a mild gift for rhyme. Thoughts?

Perhaps gangsta is not exactly the right word...I personally would go with genius. Yes, he probably was a madman and I agree with your assessment on his mild gift for rhyme, considering alot of his words were not words at all. But if you look beyond the sounds (as they were meant to entertain children) and actually take stock of the stories themselves, you will find that he was actually quite lucid and had alot to say about the world at large. Read Horton Hears a Who, Yertle the Turtle or my personal favorite, Oh the places you'll go (it is in fact tattooed between my shoulder blades) and I guarantee you will see him in a whole new light...

He was a children story book writer. Gangsta is slang for a person in a gang, which Seuss was not. Time to learn some English.

We have come to a pretty place when we must contemplate the teachings of Dr. Seuss.

Fun stories for kids of all ages, most often with a lesson in morality attached.

I can see no harm in this.
