the problem is almost every country operates from a central bank ... and the central banks are generally privately owned (including the federal reserve) and are all then generally controlled by an elite group at the top which work together ...generally called "international bankers ... so, what we can deduce from this is that one country or another may do better at one point in time or another but all money power is being systematically concentrated to a small group on international bankers which presumably work towards a single world economy which they can control more precisely and completely .... for now china could surpass the US in the coming years because the US is completely out of control in debt to the banks ... but china will fall prey to the bankers as well in due time.

As part of the BBC's Who Runs Your World? series, the BBC News Website asked two experts to debate whether global corporations are the most powerful beasts in the jungle.
Do corporations rule the world? No doubt about that.
Who prevented the US from signing the Kyoto Accord despite massive evidence that global warming is a fact? The US corporate lobby, of course.
Whose interests are served by the World Trade Organization (WTO), the most powerful multilateral organisation ever created? Transnational corporations (TNCs).

Corporations like Walmart - AIG - is the future world economy.
The corporation which can create a monopoly outside the USA and provide all services to other countries will domonate the world. This globalization will require the same currancy, and eventually, it will create one language. Countries like the USA and Britan will still get taxes however, the Monster Corportaion will soon learn to create it's own military, security of goods & services, and transportation. So, this will allow the Moster Corportion to by-pass all governments and rule the world.

There is no such thing as "leader of world economy". Some economies are bigger in absolute terms, while others have very good per capita figures (the highest per capita income in the world, by the way, is in tiny Luxembourg).

110 years ago, no one could imagine Britain NOT running the world economy. Various breakthroughs (many of which occurred in the US) as well as our absence from WWII helped us out.
To answer your question-----no one knows. It really depends on which country makes the next energy breakthrough.
