The usual reason a PC is running slowly is that you have caught a virus or spyware.
Presumably you are not running antivirus softwatre, or it is not up to date.
Download comodo antivirus (free) , Ad-Aware and Spybot antispyware (both free) and run them. Source(s)

I would suggest emptying ur laptop from the stuff u dont need, and ur recycle-bin check it regularly to see if it doznt go over-flowing. The files u dont oftenly use could be zipped or Win-RARed to save memory space, clean out ur hard-drives. Do the Disk Fragmenting to help u along the way, remove useless softwares and pictures... do these and u'll be in a much better position.{i had the same problem}

give it a good clean and tune up. Defrag it, runa scan disk, delete files you dont need anymore, delete useless programs taking up space, or you could go the other more expensive way and buy more RAM for it. An upgrade will speed it up.

Usually it's because you have too many programs running on start up, check your START/programs/Startup and delete any that you do not require and also defrag, un-installing programs you do not use, and also not forgettting virus/spyware etc....
p.s. carefull what you download installing "cleaners" will slow you down even more !!!!!!
p.s.s. If you do have a sony Battery call the fire service.....(:
