Yes. I've used my Tracfone for about 3 years. If you don't need a lot of minutes they are perfect. Or, if you don't need a phone/camera/ ipod/etc. all in one, because they are no frill.
When you get low on minutes you buy a card and add air time, so no monthly bill or 1 year service agreement.

A very good friend of mine had a TracFone and she swore by that phone but she only uses her phone for strictly emergencies. That is a very wise idea since this prepaid plan offers buckets of minutes (prices range from 20 cents to 33 cents per minute), and you must buy a new card every 60 days to keep your account active. Also offers Worry-Free Wireless plan ($99 for 250 minutes), which is good for an entire year, and a monthly plan with discounted minutes. Ouch!! That's very expensive for someone like myself. Make matter worse for some there is no camera phones available and no international calling without a separate plan. Not only did I get the following information from CNET Reviews but it came from personal experience with my friend and also me wanting to see why everyone who don't have Boost Mobile in my area getting TracFone. They are cheap phones, but its quite expensive. Prepaid is only good for what you make it. So, to answer your question, TracFone is only worth it for the utmost emergencies use only. Nothing more and certainly a lot less.
Here's a tip: If the majority of your friends and family have Nextel and Boost Mobile, get Boost Mobile...its a dollar a day for unlimited walkie-talkie but the daytime minutes are 20 cents. If you have the majority using Cingular, get CingularGo. Etc. This, my friend, would save you a bundle. I hope this help.

NO dont get a Tracfone. The minutes cost way too much. If you want a good prepaid cell phone try Net 10.

Tracfones are ultimately more expensive than a cell phone plan. You must purchase minutes every three months or so, or you loose the minutes you currently have, and your phone number. Most tracfone phones aren't of the best quality and can't do many things- deleting call history, for example, is very troublesome.
There are some cell phone plans where you can pay as you go, or you can switch your plan as needed.

They certainly are...
A prepaid wireless phone like the TracFones bring you cell phone service without a contract, credit check, security deposit, activation fee or cancellation fee if you discontinue service. There's also no minimum age requirement and no phone bills to pay. The phone itself displays how much airtime you've used and how much is left.

I had a tracphone for just in case of emergencies. Mine would not even get signal in the city I lived in!!! I would not reccommend a tracphone! My phone company had prepaid- or pay as you go phones. Maybe you should call your phone company.
