I am a South African still living in South Africa. From what i have heard you get people who love South Africa and people who hate it. There are lots of different opinions for South Africa. A lot of people think South Africa is really dangerous because of our crime rate and are too scared to even come here. Some people think we have lions and other wildlife roaming around our streets or living in our backyards. Many people are willing to criticise South Africa and everything about it and they have not even been here...like 'Comrade Tony'. Some people love South Africa and all the beauty of it. These people have faith and positivity in South Africa and see not only the bad but also the good. I love South Africa and couldnt be more happier.

It is a country in transition and not always a good one.
Everyone in the world respects Nelson Mandela but your current president is neither liked or thought of as intelligent, especially when it comes to Aids. If he doesn't acknowledge it exists, he can't or won't get the necessary drugs and health treatment to the people who need it most. By the way what's he done for most south africans lately?
Having been to south africa twice I know it's a beautiful country with lovely people.
But like all world countries the government is most of your problem and the image south africa brings to the world.

i'd wish that i'm clever sufficient to no longer have my view of a united states of america thoroughly inspired with the help of a soccer experience. South Africa painted itself ok. the enthusiasm and emotion of the folk became into shown to the international. although if the international Cup conveniently concealed the atrocious gun-crime and kidnapping that ravages the rustic. nevertheless there have been some pictures from Soweto we did no longer somewhat see the quantity of South Africa's undesirable poverty. I had a good opinion of the South African human beings previously the international Cup, and different than for being p*ssed off with the help of vuvuzelas that opinion did no longer replace.

I'm a South African living in Korea. And the Koreans are pretty much blinded by what they see or saw on TV. But us South Africans here are slowly but surely making them realize that we are not a country where lions roam the dusty roads. Also Koreans really only know of Mandela. They are very much unaware of anything or anyone else. Charlize is not very well known and SA music has never been heard by most of them. Which are good points to start talking (or educating) them on SA.

South Africa is not important enough in the global village to warrant much attention. Since the collapse of apartheid the World has very much left South Africa to get on with it since its biggest problem had been eradicated. It has made some news for the stance on HIV/Aids taken by their President and his Health Minister and sporting events such as Rugby and Cricket. It has been awarded the FIFA 2010 World Cup which is now causing great concern because of the high violent crime rates and the lack of suitable infra structure to host such a prestigious event. You can read more on the crime on www.crimexposouthafrica.org. By and large though the first World view is of just another African Country with similar problems to the one's we have seen over many, many years.

South Africans are incredibly friendly and laid-back. Also, the view of Cape Town and surrounds from the top of Table Mountain is not to be missed!

As it should be viewed. A God awful mess since the ANC took over. They took the only country in Africa with a viable economy and an approximation of law and order, and reduced it to a dangerous chaotic mess in only twelve years.
But hey, you guys voted Mandela in. You got the paradise you wanted.
It was better off under apartheid.
