You, as a home user, will probably find no difference with an AMD *3400* and the Intel.
They have different ways of getting the same thing done, but Intel IS pricier.

The newly launched intel conroe beats any AMD cpu right now, though amd will launch AM2 platform which is considered to be much faster in terms of performance....
