They know they lost the war, but the rebel flag is a symbol of pride for fighting the good fight. Believe it or not, the confederacy was on the RIGHT side of the Civil War, slavery aside. The Civil War wasn't even about slavery, it was about state's rights, and the result of the Union winning the Civil War is what you see today--an out of control federal government that has enslaved the American populace. If I were you, I'd thank your lucky stars that freedom fighters still exist, because those are the people you'll be crying to when the government decides you are no longer useful.

I know what you mean. I live in the South and while not all southerners are like that, I do see it alot, particularly in the rural areas. I went to high school in a rural part of Georgia, close to Atlanta. I can recall watching people drive trucks into the school flying rebel flags and I can recall vividly seeing people wear Dixie Outfitter t-shirts, which I find very disturbing. Many of the people who wear those shirts claim it is heritage. Many of them use that excuse to hide their own racism. There is a strong attitude of "The South Will Rise" where I live. I don't like it one bit. The North won and I am happy the USA is not split up the way it was during the Civil War(although there are other divides). Many persons in the south want thiings to be the way they war before the Civil War(the slavery days). I don't want those days back.

A lot of it has to do with trying to resolve the conflict immediately after the war. In the south it had to be taught that they did not really lose the war and that people like Robert E. Lee were just misguided heroes. The truth is southerners who faught in the Civil War were guilty of treason. Those who still hold on to the pride of "state's rights" or whatever they want to pretend the war was about are simply misguided. They need to learn for themselves what the war was about, what the flag stands for and who people like Robert E. Lee really were.

My family was fighting on the side of the north but did we really win the war? The north forced its ways on the south and stoped slavery but that was just a battle. The race war is still going and may be for 100's of years.

Have you noticed that with a bigger fish to fry like Islam most groups are grouping together as one? Even if we was to blow up every city in the middle east would would say we won the war but we would only will the batttle again because Islam would be there for hundreds of years demanding their extra rights from us.

Now when the UFO's land and try to take over the planet, Even Islam will join with the rest of the world to fight them off. So till that day the wars will go on and on with the people of this planet fighting each other. How many 100s of years will we fight these UFO on our world and on theirs? I believe we would fight them for ever just like the blacks are fighting the whites and Islam is fighting non belivers.

So do you really think the North won the war? Is it really over yet?

The North won by the South giving up because they finally agreed on a compromise!I'm from the South and I learned about that war last year! Not all southern people are dumb! And we have to get an education until we're 17 then we can quit school.

Yeah, you won the war. I'm Southern(Georgia) and not everybody here is racist. You can have Southern pride in the way of life: a little slower pace, family oriented, Christian, without it having to do with race. I don't care for anyone calling names. We are what we are.

They are ignorant attention seekers, I would guess for the most part. While I disagree personally with their views, as long as they are not harming anyone, just blustering and in general being annoying, ignore 'em.

Usually people seeking attention expect attention - negative or positive. When they pull their antics and get absolutely NO attention. Well, there will no longer be any fun in their behavior, so they will probably get bored and quit. That's only of course if EVERYONE ignores them.

Do you ever watch early Japanese anime? How did Japaneese fiction deal with the loss of World War II (space battleship yamato etc etc etc).In another war where we the US lost . Our soldiers in Vietnam were honorable and we should honor them but does anybody think Rambo II is realistic ?(I loved the movie) We lost the Vietnam war .(i wish we won) To sooth ourselves we have all those Missing in action films (loved those movies as well).Rambo etc etc.Similarly me being a Connecticut Yankee i do have a measure of empathy for the south .They were on the wrong side of the war .They did support slavery .Southern Soldiers just like us northeners died in the thousands in brutal unforgiving unflinching combat .I may not respect what the south was fighting for but i sure as hell respect the fight itself .

Man I live in the south & The "rebel" flag is a rip off of the scottish pentire (st. andrews cross) most of the southerners I know have all their teeth & go to school & drive good vehicles.

You are 150 years to late to be arguing this topic!

There just as many uneducated people in the northern states as down here.

But down here we openly show everyone respect, do you do that?

Didn't think so!

LMAO you know absolutely nothing about the south. Yeah we know we lost the war!!!!!! The reason they still fly the rebel flag is because it stands for HERITAGE NOT HATE. I do agree there are racists but dont say all of us are. I am from Kentucky and danged proud of it too. American by birth, southern by the grace of GOD!!!!!!
