I had an ultrasound early on where the doctor couldn't find the baby.
The doctor was a complete incompetent. He was poking and prodding and couldn't find a thing. My husband, a school teacher, was pointing things out to the doctor and asking "was that it?" and "what was that?". I was crying, turning away from the screen and nearly crushing my husband's hand I was holding it so tight.
Now, this was in a medical building. On the outside doors there were signs saying 'no cell phones, please'. In the office there was a sign saying 'no cell phones, please'. In the exam room there was a sign instrtucting anyone who had one to turn off their cell phones.
So here's this so-called doctor, poking and prodding and not being able to find our baby. His cell phone, which was certainly not turned off, rings. He answered it and carried on a conversation with the person on the other end... still poking and prodding and not finding the baby.
Finally he said that he couldn't find anything but he wasn't very skilled at taking ultrasounds. He told us that we could make an appointment with a specialist to get another reading.
A day or two later we went to the specialist who found the baby withing about a second.
We changed OB's that day.

Try this on for size.... not only was I prego and they said I wasnt... they also said that there was something "growing" inside my uterus that was stopping my from getting preg.... they wanted to start doing some testing but before they could i had a positive preg test and of course I switched doctors at this point... the new doc said that the only possible answer was that I was so early in preg that it wasnt totally visable.... not to mention that they called me after the sonogram and told me that with the "growth"... that I most likely would not be able to get preg again!!!

Yes, the bigger and further along you get it's harder to see on the ultrasound. The baby gets so big that you can't see anything but it's head in the ultrasound by the end. Good Luck!

Yes, with my last child I was probably 2-3 weeks pregnant and there was a circle which was the amniotic sac with what looked like a dot in it. They called it the egg sac and that in a couple of more weeks the baby could be seen and sure enough when I was 5-6 weeks we could see the baby though it was still tiny.

I've never heard of them not being able to see the baby. How far along are you?
