I don't know when or how, well, I do know when cause it tells me everytime it pops up, but...

I have this site "Popcorn.com" that pops up everytime I get online telling me that my 3 day trial has ended and now I am legally obligated to order their service. I'm the only one who uses my computer and I'm sure I've never subscribed to their service. With that said, it doesn't seem to make a difference. There are questions you can ask the sight to dispute their claim but all answers come back to their original conclusion, that in order to end the "pop-ups" I have to subscribe to their service.

I don't want this, I don't feel I need to but I don't know how to get rid of it. I've gone in and deleted cookies, temp internet files and that's about all I know to do.

Someone please help!!! Let me know how to get rid of these pop-ups without sending them $29.95...or more!!!

I had a very nice young man text me, he helped me step by step to get rid of the popup without having to download anything. Thanks for your answers but this will remain unresolved as far as "Questions" goes.

Go uninstall everybit of junk in your comp by going to 'Start' then 'control panel' and then 'add and remove programs'. Then go and download the free version of AVG anti-virus. Then do spend your $29.95 but on Spysweeper Anti-Spyware available at any electronics or big-box store. The combo of Spysweeper and AVG free keeps my brand new comp without troubles and it was recommended to me when I bought the computer by a tech at Best Buy. What you have sounds like Spyware or homepage 'hi-jack'. there are lots of free pop-up ad blockers out there but be careful as aot of those downloads have spyware IN them or they download unwanted, unknown things along with the blocker (like popcorn.com?) Also make sure when you do install something to read everything and look at what boxes are checked as sometimes they tell you up front the list of crap they are putting into your comp and you just don't notice it. I prefer the Google toolbar, it is helpful and not full of junk. Some people have multiple toolbars as everything these days has a toolbar included whch slow down your comp. Don't do this!

I have heard of these software programs that install themselves and then use scare tactics to intimidate you in to buying the software. Do not pay for the service. You mentioned that you do not recall downloading the software. You might have been a victim of a drive-by installation. Their are sites that if you just go to them, a software program will install themselves on your computer. This installation does not require any actions from the user. Another possibility is that you might have clicked a link or icon thinking it will take you to another webpage but, in fact, it downloaded a software program to your computer. In both instances, this is a crime and illegal.

Now, let's talk about how we can fix the problem without having to pay the extortion. First, go to Control Panel > Add/ Remove programs > scroll down and see if you see an entry for Popcorn > if you find such an entry then click Remove. If this does not solve the problem then you will need to download antivirus and anti-spyware programs.

First, if you do not have an antivirus program then you should download a free antivirus program like Grisoft's AVG. You can download it from: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antivirus/. Once you have installed AVG, you can refer to the following article to learn how to use it:

"How to use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition" -- written by download.com (http://www.download.com/How-to-use-AVG/1200-2023-5158759.html?tag=morehowto)

Scan your computer and quaratine any suspicous files.

Second, you will need to download and scan your computer with an anti-spyware program(s). There are two free anti-spyware programs I highly recommend, Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft's Ad Aware. You can download both programs from: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/

After installing them, refer to these two articles for how to use them:

1. "How to effectively remove Malware using Spybot Search & Destroy" -- written by malwarehelp.org (http://www.malwarehelp.org/how-to-effectively-remove-malware-spybot1.html)

2. "How to effectively remove Malware using Ad-Aware SE Personal " -- written by malwarehelp.org (http://www.malwarehelp.org/how-to-effectively-remove-adaware1.html)

You might also want to take a look at an article reviewing safety on the Internet.

3. "Ten steps to Malware Prevention" -- written by malwarehelp.org (http://www.malwarehelp.org/ten-steps-to-malware-prevention-part-1.html)

If these steps do not work then contact me for additional help.

Sounds like spyware. Download the program SpyBot or AdAware and run a full scan of your PC.

get a popup blocker, and uninstall their software. Also, a virus protector. You might need to invest in a spyware tool, also.

People who are clueless really should have computers.
