You bet it is unamerican. Unfortunately, the Dixie Chicks are the victims of deregulation.
Clear Channel, who owns a majority of radio and tv stations, pulled their records from being played because of her statement, which she, as an American, is certainly entitled to make. Since Clear Channel practically has a monopoly on the air waves, their careers were damaged by this policy toward them. It effectively silences dissension of any kind for fear of losing ones career, job, means of making a living. Much like McCarthyism did in the fifties.

My answer to this is the same everytime ..They have the right and freedom to say what ever there little hearts want to, and the public has the right and freedom never to attend their concerts.I heard they just canceled 14 more dates due to no tickets being sold. They squashed themselves with their mouths.Even all the dates down here in Texas, their home state has been canceled.
The Bush comments were just the straw that broke the camels back. These chicks has been talking smack about everyone and everything years before the comments about Bush.Taking on Toby Keith, wearing the F.U.T.K. shirt at the awards show. What really killed them was slamming Reba Mcentire..A woman who's considered an icon when it comes to female country singers, like Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline etc, In their own words, they said they dont want to be in the same cd cases along side people like Reba and Toby, well they got their wish. In other words they ridiculed the fans who made them what they are.Screw em.
Also, as with so many other stars, everyone knows they hate Bush, but yet they have no soultions to any problems.I think EVERYBODY is sick of that.

freedom of speech unfortunately has become a bashing of others.. talking filthy, and plain disrespect. I do not call that a freedom.. I call that just plain wrong.. It is not only the Dixie Chicks, but everyone else that can get into the public eye..
Unfortunately.. the abuse has gone to every freedom this country offered its people, and you know it.
Start bringing back the freedoms and rights as they were intended.. not for bashing, or swearing of all kinds, and thinking - wow, I can say anything I ever wanted to.. what a good boy-girl I am!
Some of these people need a good walk to the woodshed, and have their backside seriously warmed.

She has the right to say what she wanted, but the way in which she went about giving her opinion was untasteful.
Then, the Dixie Chicks new song is just a big "f-you" to every person that spoke out against them. That was their choice. There are a hundred ways to react to the negitive press, and releasing the new song is what they decided to do. Maybe it was a good thing, showing the world a group of young women willing to stand up for their beliefs. Maybe it's a bad thing by showing disreguard for the feelings of their major market (ie. southern Republicans).
Either way, it's American to have and share opions, and to make choices, on all sides of the controversey.

They are just musicians with an opinion. They do have the media's attention. So what!
If they are willing to alienate some of their fans & thereby losing some sales, so be it. This is America!
If these alienated fans want to boycott them & thereby miss hearing the Dixie Chicks music, so be it. This is America!
I find it funny that some people would even feel threatened by Maine's stating her opinion! Who cares what she says... her opinion is just one of 300 million here in the USA. Nothing special about it at all! Do you strictly vote on the opinion of the checkout boy at Home Depot? Why isn't his opinion just as important as a musicians?
If Natalie wants to speak up about her political beliefs, I say Go for it! but remember - it is just her opinion, nothing special.
I do feel the boycotts are silly but hey, this is America! We are allowed to do silly things! Like listen to Bill O'Reilly or believe everything Al Gore has to say......

Well you know it wasn't that she used her freedom of speech, it was that she bashed the country and more importantly the men and women who are protecting us! I don't care if you agree or disagree with the war..Bashing our troops is not the way to do it!
I can't believe with as popular as there group is, at concerts or in public arenas...that she has not need to be protected from crazy fans...I bet ya she appreciate the people that protect her from them...I think she is a hypocrite!

She can say whatever she wants. But she shouldn't cry if there is a consequence with what she says. Frankly, most conservative were right at a point where they were getting quite urked at celebrities always supporting the liberal point of view. It also shows how out of touch she was with her fans. Any idiot would know that country music fans are more conservative than rappers.

Ms. Bigmouth Natalie can say whatever she wants to but NOT in a foreign country. You just don't go around bashing a president of your own country to another country. Even though what she said was true she should have kept her mouth shut and I believe she and the others got exactly what they deserved!!!!!!!!! Cant stand them.

I think she had the right to say what she did, however, the people who had been fans also have the right to not listen to the band anymore. If the listeners don't want to listen to them, the radio stations aren't going to play them.
Yes, you have freedom to say what you want, but it doesn't mean you are free from consequences.
I personally think the impact wouldn't have been so great if she had been making the comments here, not overseas.

All three of them have excellent musical talent. Natalie just needs to think about things first a little before she speaks. I know their political views have nothing to do with their music but it was pretty bad what she said. I'd still buy their music.
