Why not get off your computer and actually read the book? It's really quite good!

It's actually about a Japanese , (not Chinese) girl. She grows up very poor and is sold into slavery shortly before her parents die. She ends up in a Geisha house, but is scared and is tormented by the Geisha who lives there. Her young life is full of nothing but cruelty, and she seems destined to end up a maid for the rest of her life, until she meets a kind man, who inspires her to become a Geisha. Part of the story is about the hardships she goes through in becoming a Geisha. Then the story shifts into her life as a Geisha and the relationship she forms. It is set against the background of the Great Depression and World War II and is a very compelling story.

A young chinese girl, who comes to be known as Sayuri, and her sister are sold by their father into a city to be slaves. The girl is chosen to be trained as a geisha due to her beautiful, yet strange blue eyes. Her sister is left to work as a prostitute in the bad part of town, and sadly seperated from Sayuri. The city is strange to the girl, and life is very tough. Sayuri rivals her housemate and friend "Pumpkin" to become a successful geisha, earning money for her household. She has many difficulties including lies told by her housemates and rivals to make her look bad. However, another geisha takes her under her wing and trains her to be the most successful geisha in the city. The innocence of childhood is well told. Also, a twist of a love story comes about in the end. Its a great story.

"A young chinese girl" said by xiorcalm.

....ummmm.......

Don't actually use this. Geisha's first and foremost are Japanese. Sayuri was Japanese.

The actress who played her was Chinese.

There's a world of difference between Japan and China.
