It depends on the personalities of each person. I am friends with 95% of them. We dated and found other interests. No animosity is between us.
I know a lot of people who believe that past relationships should just be that, past.

you CAN be friends with an ex. But just like a romantic relationship, a friendship takes two people. And if one or both of you are not mature enough to handle a friendship after a relationship, then it isn't going to work. Sometimes it takes time for the friendship to develop, because you have to get closure from the relationship.
I have a few guy friends who are exes, but now they are the best friends I have. I also have some exes I never talk to anymore. It's different for every person.

I was never able to do so. I kind of wonder why. It's sad because I can't even have a conversation with my daughter's father and we broke up 5 years ago. You just have to let go and realize that God separated the two of you for a reason. And you must think about the lesson of the relationship and not think about the experience. It is very hard to remain friends with exes because you think about for example the good sex or perhaps you think about all the things they've done that hurt you and you can't forget about it.

Look what if you old boyfriend has someone Else and then decide to have sex with you to what are you gone a do?Better leave it go on with your life.

you can, im married for 16 years now, i see my ex boyfriend every so often, he is also married now, but we have are own life's you just have to understand each other.

You can if you end the relationship on good terms. With me, I choose not to look back. Whenever I end a relationship, I don't look back.

u can be friends with ur ex-boyfriend but it will be difficult for u to hide or control ur feelings for him (if u still love him.)

why not?? im still friends wit my ex.. we'r not that close as we used to b b4 we dated but we still meet up for a chat! mayb we'r still friends cos i hav no feelings for him any longer & im into another guy!! dont think i'll manage to b his friend if i still lik him!

i am, my husband and i hang out with him and his wife every weekend. we are all friends and get along great. i see nothing wrong with it. if you were with someone and cared for them, why not stay friends!!!
