It depends on the context - do you mean a superhero (like, well, Superman), an action hero (like John McClane of the "Die Hard" films), or just the main character of a book who goes through some hardship (like Oliver Twist)?
I'll try to keep it simple: I really love what Christopher Nolan has done with the Batman franchise. I love Christian Bale's take on the character, and I'd rather watch "Batman Begins" for the I don't-know-how-many-eth time than any other superhero movie.
And I've always had a soft spot for Tom Clancy's brainiac action hero Jack Ryan (the Alec Baldwin version, please!).
